Diagnosis of Pink Eye

In most cases diagnosis of Madras eye is done based on the symptoms that are observed and experienced. Treatments given on the basis of this kind of diagnosis have yielded successful results.

When topical antibiotics do not help to reduce the conjunctivitis infection, bacterial culture of swabs will be necessary if the symptoms indicate bacterial conjunctivitis. If pink eye is of epidemic proportions, viral cultures are more appropriate. If granulomatous diseases or dysplasia is suspected, a biopsy may be necessary.
